4th of July

We had a wonderful celebration for the fourth of July. All of my sisters and their families came over for swimming, BBQ, Fireworks and of course, our Bender family tradition of Homemade root beer and homemade ice cream. YUM! We had lots of fun.

I love seeing my sisters play with my kids. They love their aunts and uncles so much and have rarely gotten to spend so much time with them. Brian, Esther and Mike all braved the pool with six kids.

We went outside to do a little snake making. I don't think they should be called snakes, they look much more like dog excrement to me. (Notice the flame thrower that Brian is using to lite the poor snakes. He insists it works better. Well, it did. Those things went up in flames. It was pretty effective on the fireworks later too.)

We lined them all up to patiently wait for the show to start.

Adria did a little dance and sang a little song with her sparklers. It was pretty cute.

After the pyrotechnics, we came inside for homemade root beer floats. YUM. That is a vivid memory from my youth. I can picture myself standing in my backyard watching the dry ice fog escape from the 5 gallon igloo where the root beer is being made. Next to the igloo are two dolts (I don't remember who they were) throwing a piece of dry ice back and forth trying not to get 'burned.' I also remember trying to sneak a taste when no one was looking. I wasn't very sly, it didn't usually work.

This was the end of the night. Grandpa's youngest grandchildren were quite finished with the day. One crawled up into Grandpa's lap and the other couldn't be left out.

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend.
